Grand Seiko 61GS 18k Yellow Gold 1970 6146-8000 36mm Day Date Rare Automatic
Grand SeikoFor auction is a February 1970 Grand Seiko 6146-8000 18k yellow gold 36mm with original tang buckle unpolished. The Good: 1. I personally collect Seiko and this is a real halo watch. The 61GS in 18k with day and date is one of the true great GS references; in 1969 when it was introduced and was the second most expensive reference made that year (it was at the time 195,000 yen and was more expensive than the Astronomical Observatory Chronometer and all but the rarest of rare VFA Lobster bracelet). It is also an instance of being able to get an original for roughly what the reissue goes for (there are some limited solid gold modern GS that are about this price); that is always horological cognitive dissonance. 2. Beyond being rare it is in unpolished condition with its original tang buckle; it isn't perfect Zaratsu polish but has all its meat on it. 3. If you are Seiko crazy like I am you don't need me to sell this you'll know how special this is. The bad: Nothing really this is an especially nice watch.
